While looking out on the beautiful Tokara Wine Estate in the stunning sunshine of South Africa’s Western Cape - my dear friend Cobus du Toit asked me “What is the word for being blissfully happy at your current situation. but also terribly sad that it has to end?”

We googled - and discovered “Saudade” - the feeling of nostalgia tinged both with joy and sadness - and the idea for an Alto Flute & Piano piece was born!

With Saudade being a Portuguese word - I thought a groovy Bossanova would be perfect - interspersed with heart-wrenching “tragicchissimo” moments before a wistful and humorous ending!

The piece has a fully transcribed jazz alto flute solo that is also available as an intermediate version available through a QR Code PDF download - so that intermediate level players can also enjoy this piece without feeling overwhelmed!
