A charming little disaster, a cute little nightmare, an adorable little monster for piccolo and piano. This piece, commissioned in 2025 by one of the world’s premiere piccolo masters Peter Verhoyen has a split personality - the opening is cute, SUPER cute, in a lilting Lydian mode, you can feel the magic and wide-eyed wonder almost from the first note. Cinematic, soaring but sweet - all seems at peace and utterly delightful.

BUT THEN.

We enter a world of mischief, discord, cheeky, impish and downright rude piccolo-ing! Rhythmic, fast paced, thumbing it’s nose at various esteemed orchestral works with a “nyeh nyeh” - this is guaranteed to leave the audience on the edge of their seat - and may even get a laugh or two due to the high jinx on stage. It ends with a bang in order to get the audience to roar their approval. Designed to be a crowd pleaser and to raise goosebumps and a rye smile!
