“Taivas on sininen ja valkoinen” (The Sky is Blue and White) is haunting Finnish Folk song - here - adapted and arranged to be played by EVERY standard of flutist from 8 to 80!

The brief from the Finnish Flute Association was to write something that could be played by the 100+ flutists taking part in both flute choirs at the Finnish Flute Festival in Helsinki in October 2025.

I asked if there were any nice folk melodies that might be adapted - as this is alwasy a good starting point - and this is what was supplied!

I got to work and this haunting melody - first shared, then played in canon by the junior flutists is then accompanied by icy winds growing ever stronger, finally resulting in a warm, thick, gentle bed for the meldy to rest - ending with a lovely major chord in a tierce de Picardie style!
